What our clients say…

“For 2 years I suffered with every day plantar fasciitis. I contacted several specialists and diligently followed their recommendations. Nothing was helping and life as a mother was becoming all but too much. It was then that my therapist told me about a new modality called shockwave therapy. I asked around and a few had tried it with unbelievable success. Excited with this avenue, I booked a course of shockwave treatments. After the first treatment I could feel a difference and within 4 treatments I have achieved unbelievable pain relief and healing. Thanks to shockwave therapy a pain-free life has returned! I would unreservedly recommend shockwave therapy to anyone dealing with chronic pain, the investment is worth every penny.”

Shockwave FAQs

Who are Shockwave Therapy appointments for?

Shockwave Therapy is for people experiencing persistent pain. It is commonly used on people suffering from tendinopathies such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, and tennis elbow. It’s also used for chronic shoulder and hip pain, among many other localised tender or painful areas.

How does Shockwave Therapy work?

Shockwave therapy is a non-surgical treatment that works by targeting specific damaged tissues with low-energy radial waves. This increases blood flow within the affected area, stimulating cell regeneration and healing while decreasing pain.

What can I expect from my Shockwave Therapy appointment?

After a Shockwave therapy appointment, you may experience a slight and temporary increase in pain before feeling the decrease in pain in the affected area. Many patients experience an improvement in symptoms almost immediately, while others can take several weeks to respond.

During your Shockwave therapy appointment, we will:

  • Discuss your symptoms and conditions
  • Advise on the number of Shockwave Therapy treatments we believe will be necessary (you may benefit from one treatment or more)
  • Apply the Shockwave therapy treatment to your affected area for up to 10 minutes
  • Advise on other physiotherapy treatments to be used in conjunction with Shockwave therapy, if necessary

Can anyone have Shockwave Therapy?

There are a number of occasions when Shockwave Therapy should not be used:

  • Pregnancy
  • Haemophilia or other coagulation disorders
  • Acute inflammation
  • Disturbed sensory and nervous function, e.g., Diabetes
  • Corticosteroid injections – wait a minimum of 6 weeks after local injections
  • Malignancy
  • Prostheses and implants

Your physiotherapist will be able to advise you further.

What are the side effects of Shockwave Therapy?

The side effects of shockwave therapy are most often minimal. The majority of patients experience a reduction in their pain. Occasionally, some may experience mild side effects too. If experienced, they will commonly disappear after 5-10 days.

Side effects can include:

  • Reddening, bruising, or tiny non-raised patches over the treated area
  • A mild increase in pain
  • Numbness or swelling in the treated area

What should I bring and wear to my appointment?

Wear something comfortable, bearing in mind that the area being treated will need to be exposed.

Is Shockwave Therapy covered by private medical insurance?

Our Shockwave Therapy is covered by most major private medical insurance providers. The number of authorised sessions available to you will depend on your insurer.
