COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Whilst most people infected will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without needing specialist treatment, there are people at higher risk to develop a serious illness. This includes older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer.
The most common symptoms are developing a new continuous cough and/or a high fever (above 37.8°C) and now loss/change in your normal sense of smell or taste. Other symptoms that may appear are aches, pains, nasal congestion, sore throat or diarrhoea.
As you have answered no to the screening questions, the risk to you is deemed to be reduced, however, proceeding with face-to-face treatment does of course pose a risk. While every step is being taken to reduce the risk of the spread of the infection, we cannot guarantee completely mitigating the risk of the virus.
We are continuing to promote a virtual first approach with Online Physiotherapy, and these sessions have proved very beneficial for our clients.
During your consultation your physiotherapist will discuss the treatment options available to you and the risks associated with these. They may also deem that the risk to perform certain treatments does not outweigh the potential benefits and may refuse to perform certain manual treatments.
