Just had a baby?

As your body changes, it’s almost impossible not to worry about what’s ‘normal’. Following vaginal delivery or C-section, this is your ‘ask-us-anything’ post-natal appointment.

Throughout your Mummy MOT® our incredible female therapists will perform a series of tests, talk you through any symptoms or concerns you might have, and provide you with a bespoke post-natal plan to get you back to feeling like you again.

FAQs

Who is a Mummy MOT® for?

Mums of all ages at all stages.

After having a baby, around half of all women experience weakness in their abdominals or pelvic floor area. This can result in back and pelvic girdle pain, incontinence issues, “tummy gap” and more… It’s not surprising to know that many women find these symptoms uncomfortable and embarrassing. These post-natal symptoms are normal, but certainly not something you need to put up with!

During a Mummy MOT®, our expert female Women’s Health Specialists will work with you to talk openly about the symptoms or concerns you have, perform a series of standardised tests, and create a bespoke post-natal recovery plan to get you back to feeling like you again.

What happens during a Mummy MOT®?

During your Mummy MOT® our expert female Women’s Health Specialists will talk to you about your symptoms and any concerns you may have, perform a series of standardised tests, and create a bespoke post-natal recovery programme plan to get you back to feeling like you again.

During your 60-minute assessment we’ll cover the following:

  • Full postural screen
  • Abdominal muscle exam to check for any weakness or separation
  • Pelvic floor muscle assessment
  • Check the healing of any scars or stitches
  • Screening for any bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction
  • We’ll discuss your goals, whether it be easing discomfort or getting back into your fitness routine
  • From there we will talk through your assessment results and create a bespoke rehabilitation programme incorporating any necessary hands-on treatment and personalised exercises to help with your recovery
  • Follow-up appointments. If we feel you could benefit from more hands-on treatment and support, then we’ll advise you on our recommended follow-up appointments.

Will I be expected to remove my clothes during a Mummy MOT®?

The Mummy MOT®  includes an internal pelvic examination during which you will be required to remove the bottom half of your clothing. However, if you would prefer not to have an internal examination then you will not need to remove your clothes. Please speak to your therapist directly about this during your appointment.

When should I have a Mummy MOT®?

The Mummy MOT® is a specialist in-depth postnatal physiotherapy assessment recommended for all women following childbirth (however long ago), covering both vaginal and C-section deliveries.

It’s recommended that women have an initial assessment after their 6-8 week GP check, but we also treat women who gave birth years ago that may still have a tummy gap or related pelvic floor issues.

If you’re feeling uncomfortable or unsure of whether or not your symptoms are normal, we’re here to answer any questions you have and get you back to feeling like you again!
